Serendipity...a term first coined by Horace Wallpole more than three hundred years ago among his correspondences. He attempts to define this term in a mere couple of words, but even the most careful placement and arrangement cannot fully attempt to describe the meaning behind the feeling of serendipity. I think of this magnificent word as more of a verb than a noun, and certainly think it has a deeper meaning than shear "good luck or fortune". His attempt was this, "making discoveries, by accident and sagacity of things they were not in quest of"...
I greatly encourage any avid Pride and Prejudice follower to set aside ten minutes and enjoy the ensightful short story of The Three Princes of Serendip. I perhaps read almost half this story aloud to myself with some sort of a fake British-esque accent.
Some time in my past, this word has become a part of me. As one of my most favorite films, I of course adore the idea of Sara Thomas and Jonathon Trager drawn together by fate. But more than a chick flik crush, Serendipity is the one word describing everything I love about life. The sweetest things in life seem to be the things that just happen- the effortless fortunes. Some call them challenges, some call them obstacles, some call them blessings, but I can call them by no other name than Serendipity.
A diagnosis with Celiac and the only treatment a gluten free lifestyle. It sparked my interest in nutrition...a passion that has followed me into my professional life...has brought me closer to my mother (diagnosed a year after I was), and has made me realize I won't ever be happy in a cubicle. Although every day can be a new set of challenges, this is by far one of the simpler to master. Gluten free cooking is a definite art. Serendipity has found me, now swallowed up in a love affair with Lady Charleston. I have been condemned to a year by the ocean...immersed every day in my passion for people and their health. I am a Dietetic Intern at MUSC and I have Celiac. Follow my story... it begins in a little coffee shop off of King Street. I will not cook my way through Julia's recipes or tell you how to loose one hundred pounds, but I'll tell you how I live life...one day at a time...gluten free.
